Weegie Wednesday was set up during 2006 to offer a meeting opportunity to promote networking and idea sharing for writers and all people interested in the process of writing or working in a writing related field in the Glasgow area.

Weegie Wednesday met initially in the West End of Glasgow as an ad hoc arrangement until 2009 when, with funding support from Culture and Sport Glasgow Development Fund, the monthly get together moved to a City Centre location and a voluntary Steering Group was formed.

Utilising this funding opportunity, Weegie Wednesday has blossomed into the main provider for literary interaction in Glasgow and beyond.

Weegie Wednesday has an open door policy to anyone interested in or involved in writing regardless of their previous experience.

Weegie Wednesday is a unique evening in Scotland. Each person is welcomed by a host and the evening is facilitated by Steering Group members to ensure that like minded individuals get an opportunity to develop networking relationships and learning and business opportunities.

Through this facilitation and networking process many attendees have developed writing support or buddy relationships, gained opportunities for advancing their talents, or gained actual employment or distribution for their work. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence of people benefitting from attending Weegie.

Each Weegie evening has two Showcase speakers who talk briefly of the process of work and offer useful advice and guidance to writers of all abilities.

Each Weegie is attended by approximately 60 people, a third of whom are regulars, another third are casual attendees, and with the final third being new members.
